Mission Statement

Introduction

God is reconciling this fallen world to himself and calls people to move with him in this mission. From the beginning of the Bible’s story when God asked Adam, “Where are you?” (Genesis 3:9) to the end when every tribe and nation gathers around the throne of the Lamb to worship (Revelation 7:9-10), the Bible is permeated with this mission theme.

Passion for lost people and restored friendship with God through Jesus Christ is the driving force of mission (2 Peter 3:9). This is God’s joy. Mission moves and flows as the Holy Spirit directs it. The Evangelical Covenant Church shares this passion to bring lost and hurting people to God.

Our Mission Statement

Covenant World Mission facilitates intercultural ministries around the world and partners with churches and international believers to glorify God’s name by bringing the whole gospel to the whole world.

Our Core Values

1. The mission of God. The ministry of the reconciliation of people with God through Jesus Christ is our central purpose.
2. Our dependence on God. We acknowledge our dependence on the Word and Spirit of God in all of our endeavors. Thus we commit ourselves to the Word of God and prayer.
3. Life in community. Reconciliation with God in Christ is evidenced through the love for one another that prays, encourages, comforts, exhorts, confesses, forgives, reconciles and restores.
4. Our need for others. We recognize the limit of a single cultural perspective and our need to listen to and learn from others. As we encounter people of other cultures, we are transformed by God and better able to understand ourselves, our world and God’s actions in the world.
5. Working together. God’s ministry of reconciliation has been entrusted to all believers. God’s passion for mission is expressed through local communities of believers around the world. These communities make up the body of Christ, working together in harmony. Therefore we humbly acknowledge our need to work together with our brothers and sisters in Christ throughout the world in the task of mission.
6. The gospel in every culture. We are committed to the formation of communities of faith that are obedient to the Word and Spirit of Jesus Christ, find expression through local languages and cultures, and are led by national leadership.
7. The whole gospel. The gospel of Jesus Christ impacts all of life. The integrity of Christian witness depends on a seamless connection between words and deeds. We are committed to proclaiming the good news of Jesus Christ and demonstrating it through compassionate service, sacrificial acts of mercy and justice and care for God’s creation.

Our Strategic Goals

Covenant World Mission facilitates:

1. The planting of culturally relevant churches.
2. The spiritual formation and equipping of God’s people for ministry and leadership.
3. The development of ministries that demonstrate the whole gospel, by seeking to address the spiritual, social and physical needs of people.
4. Vibrant mission partnerships with Evangelical Covenant churches and followers of Christ around the world.
