FAQ

I have questions about World Mission but don't know who to ask. Is there someone I can contact?
We would be glad to assist you or answer any questions. Our contact information is available at the bottom of this page.

Praying

How do I find out about the areas where missionaries need prayer?
We have two prayer guides online: how to pray for missionaries and how to pray for missionaries' children.

Is there a prayer guide for Covenant missionaries?
Prayer is so important to mission. The Covenant Missionary Prayer Calendar is an excellent guide for prayer. You can pray for specific missionaries daily as well as learn about their work. You can also request the Praise and Prayer List, which is a weekly email with prayer requests from around the world.

Giving

Our church wants to support a missionary. How do we get started?
We have several suggestions for you:

  • First, did you know that your church can select the missionary it would like to support. Contact us and we can give you the names of the missionaries that do work in the areas that interest your church.
  • You can also visit the regions section of this website and see the areas in which Covenant missionaries serve.

Is there a list of projects that I might be interested in supporting financially? Where can I find it?
Yes there is a list. There are several options for you. Visit our "Giving" page to see the opportunities that currently exist. You can choose a project according to your interests.

Going

What if my church wants to go on a mission trip?
You can go by contacting Covenant Mission Connection (CMC). It is a service available to local Covenant churches to assist in planning for and preparing work teams sent to locations in the U.S. and abroad (usually for 1-2 weeks).

What if I want a work team to come to my church or camp to help with a project?
Contact Covenant Mission Connection (CMC). CMC also facilitates contact between those who want a work team to visit and those that would like to be part of a project.

What if I, or someone else in my church, want(s) to become a missionary?
Contact the department office. You can also visit the "Going" section of our website to see the different missionary tracks available.

What if I want to visit a missionary?
Contact your missionary and ask to visit or plan a mission trip with Covenant Mission Connection to the place where a missionary you support lives.

Connecting with Missionaries

How do I get to know our missionaries?
Why not have one visit your church! Below are suggestions for communicating with missionaries in their countries of service.

How do I schedule a missionary at my church, camp or retreat?
Contact the departmental office.

What is itineration or home assignment?
It is the term Covenant World Mission uses to refer to the time missionaries spend visiting churches when they are in the USA and Canada.

Can we send letters to missionaries?
Yes, you can. Check with your post office for rates and use the Covenant Missionary Prayer Calendar for addresses.

Can we send packages?
Contact your missionary to see if this is advisable. In some countries missionaries must pay a steep fee to receive a package from abroad.

Can I send email to missionaries?
Yes, but there are countries that charge "per page" fees. You can find email addresses in the Covenant Missionary Prayer Calendar. We suggest you don't send "spam" or mass emails and pay attention to security issues. Some missionaries cannot receive attachments either.

How can I encourage my missionary?
Pray. Give. Write to them. Find out what would encourage them. Maybe they need some chocolate or peanut butter. You would be surprised at the things not available to missionaries in some countries.

Resources

Are there books I can read to learn more about World Mission?
Here are several books we suggest you read.

Where can I find ideas for getting my church involved in mission?
The Covenant Resource Center has many resources available on mission. You can also contact the departmental office for a list of world mission resources that might be helpful.

We already send missionaries from our church, are there any resources available to us?
Yes, there are. We can share information on missionary care, fundraising, and more. We also have connections within countries where your missionaries are located.  A Covenanter serving internationally with a non-Covenant organization may be recognized as a Covenanter in World Mission.

What is a Regional Coordinator? What do they do?
