Current Children's Service Project
COLOMBIA
“Hope for Refugee Children”
For many years, Colombians living in
the rural countryside and small towns have been forced to leave their land,
homes, and possesions due to violence provoked by armed rebel groups fighting
for control over land, resources, and power. These refugees struggle to make a
new life for themselves and their families as they migrate to surrounding
cities. They live in poor neighborhoods and deal with various problems, such as
malnutrition, unemployment, and lack of adequate health care and education. Children of refugee
families are unlikely to escape their current situation without education.
Through this year’s Children’s
Service Project, “Hope for Refugee
Children,” we will partner with Covenant ministries that provide educational support
for children of refugee families. The offerings
collected will go toward school supplies, gym clothes, shoes and socks, and
Bibles. Once
again, children in Covenant churches across
North America will be able to offer hope of a better future to the children in
Colombia.
The 2008-2009 Children’s Service Project booklet contains twenty-four stories of children receiving help from
Covenant ministries in three cities: Medellín, Montería, and Barranquilla. Before taking your offering each week with the children,
please read one of the stories as a reminder of who will be receiving their
gifts. In this way, the children will connect with a bigger picture of God’s
kingdom as they give.
Your gifts will be distributed in partnership with Covenant World Relief. All money received goes directly to the Covenant Church
of Colombia and will be distributed to the three ministries highlighted in this
booklet.
We already know children can reflect Christ’s love to others and can make a
difference through their giving and their prayers. Thank you for joining us
this year in helping the children of Colombia.
